Observance of World Braille Day – 2017

Government of West Bengal, Department of Women& Child Development and Social Welfare observed World Braille Day on 4th January, 2017 at Minerva Theatre,Beadon Street, Kolkata. 400 Visually Impaired students of College/formal as well as Special Schools from Kolkata and adjoining Districts accompanied by their Principal / teachers participated in the main programme held at Minerva Theatre, Kolkata. Smt. RoshniSen, Secretary, Deptt. of W&CD & SW inaugurated the programme. Smt. Ranu Bhattacharya, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities welcomed the dignitaries. Smt. HenaBasu, Secretary, Society for the visually Handicapped, Kolkata spoke on importance and significance of Braille Day.Dr. C. Shau, Eye Specialist of Medical College, Kolkataspoke on causes & early identification of Visual Impairment.

Persons with Visual Impairment who established in life shared their experience with regard to difficulties they faced at all levels and their key to success.

Smt. Roshni Sen, Secretary, Department of W&CD and SW gave away assistive devices to 24 Persons with Visual Impairment such as DVD player and iPod under Prosthetic Aid Scheme.

Cultural event by students with Visual Impairment of various Special Schools was also held
