Department of CD, WD & SW observed World Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April, 2017 at Minerva Theater, Kolkata. On the eve of WAAD a “JOY RIDE” on Tram for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder was organized from Esplanade Tram depot to Shyam Bazar and back. Dr. Smt. ShashiPanja, HMOS (IC), Department of W & CD& SW flagged off the tram.
On 2nd April the programme was held at Minerva Theater, Kolkata. Smt. Ranu Bhattacharya, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, West Bengal welcomed the guests and participants. Prof.S. Bhattacharya, Institute of Child Health, Kolkata discussed various aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Prof. M. Banerjee, Deptt. of Psychology, Calcutta University discussed on Parental Stress- Way of Coping and Dr. Smt. A. Panda, Project Coordinator, Calcutta University discussed Health & Sex education for Adult person with Autism. Parents guardians, Students from main stream schools & colleges and Special Educators attended the programme and took active participation in discussions. 22 NGOs participated in the programme. Followed by CulturalProgramme by persons with Autism.
