Department of CD, WD & SW observed Deaf-Blind Day, 2016 on the occasion of birth anniversary of Helen Keller on 27th June, 2016at Sisir Mancha, Kolkata. On this occasion an "AWARENESS WALK" was organized. Dr. ShashiPanja, HMOS (IC), Department of WD & SW and CD Deptt.and HMOS, Deptt. of H & FW flagged off the walk from Sisir Mancha.

The main function was held at Sisir Mancha, Kolkata.Dr. ShashiPanja, HMOS (IC), Department of WD & SW and CD Deptt. and HMOS, Deptt. of H & FWinaugurated the programme. Sri N.G. Hira, IAS, Commissioner to the Govt. of West Bengal, Department of CD, WD& SW and Smt. Santa Pradhan, WBCS (Exe), Secretary, West Bengal Women Development Undertaking and Ex-officio Joint Secretary to the Govt. of West Bengal, Department of CD, WD& SW were present in the programme. Smt. Ranu Bhattacharya, WBCS (Exe.)Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, West Bengal welcomed the diginitaries and participants.

Dr. Smt. Somosir Ray, Asstt. Professor, High Risk Neonotomy, Pediatrics Department, Medical College, Kolkata was a Resource person and discussed the Early Identification and Early Intervention of High Risk babies with deafness and blindness. Smt. MamtaDebnath, Society for Visually Handicapped talks about management of deaf-blindness

Dr. ShashiPanja, HMOS (IC), Department of WD & SW and CD Deptt. and HMOS, Deptt. of H & FW distributed Economic Rehabilitation Grant of Rs. 10,000/- each to 54 Persons with Disabilities and Assistive devices to 15 Persons with Deaf-blindness, Hearing and Visually Impaired.

Mr. Saheb Sharma, a person with Visual Impairment shared his experience on developing Net based radio "Bongonet" and its accessibility. Mr. Sinha, a person with Visual Impairment shared his experience on developing web based "Audio Magazine".

Smt. SubhaLehiri, Special Educator interpreted the proceedings in sign language for persons with hearing impairment.

Students with hearing & visual impairment from various organisations participated in Cultural programme.
