A Special Awareness Programme, on Deafblind Day, was organized by the Department of Women Dev & Social Welfare on 27th June, 2014 at Sisir Mancha, Kolkata. Rallies were organized from five places Viz. Shyam Bazar, Sealdah, Howrah, Goria and Behala with Tableaux. About 1000 PwDs and general public participated in the Rallies. Dr. (Smt.) Shashi Panja, Hon‟ble MOS (IC), WD & SW Deptt. Smt. Roshni Sen, Ssecretary, WD & SW Deptt; Shri Dipak Ghosh, OSD and EO. Secretary, CD Deptt. and Smt. Mita Banerjee, Commissioner (Disabilities), WB attended the Programme. Seven eminent employers from Corporate Sector for providing employment to PwDs and Special Educators were felicitated. Two Deaf-blind persons established in life were also felicitated. 16 Deaf-blind students were given away teaching learning material. Various Aids and Appliances were distributed to 67 PwDs such as Wheel Chair, Digital Hearing Aids, DVD players, ipods etc. Economic Rehabilitation Grant was distributed to 26 PwDs for self employment. There was an attractive Cultural Program by PwDs at the end.
