In terms of Section 52 of Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 read with Rule 43 of West Bengal Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Rules, 1999 Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities registers organisations working for the persons with Disabilities. 520 organizations are so far registered under PWD Act, 1995. 18 new and 95 registrations are renewed in 2014-15. District & Category-wise directory of Registered NGOs is prepared and inserted in the compendium „SPHURAN‟ published by the Department every year & released on International Day of Persons with Disabilities. For proper monitoring of the activities of the NGOs monitoring Committees at the District, Sub-division and Block Levels are set up.
